G. Singh, Born on 15th December 1961 at village Chainpur, Dist. Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, India, the author has completed his ‘Master of Science’ and Doctor of Philosophy’ from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, UP, India in 1984 and 1989, respectively. While working in the areas of sandy terrain management and sand drift control; water relation of tree plantations; wastewater utilization and mineral nutrition for dry land productivity; tree-vegetation interaction and tree integration in agricultural land; resource conservation and restoration of degraded land/ hills; and carbon budgeting of forests and soils at Arid Forest Research Institute (AFRI), Jodhpur, India since last 23 years, the author has completed 19 projects of varying sizes, published more than 180 papers in journal of national/international repute and book chapters. More than 20 reports have been prepared by authors based on research projects, evaluation and field assessments. In addition two project documents have also been prepared for field implementation for different agencies including Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board, Jaipur.
Some of the fellowship/awards to the author’s credit are Junior Research Fellowship of CSIR, New Delhi (1984), Graduate Aptitude Test in engineering (GATE), 1985; S.K. Seth Prize for the year 2002 and 2012 for the best research paper in the field of ‘Environmental and Ecology’ published in ‘Indian Forester’ and ICFRE Award for Excellence in Forestry Research in the year 2003-04. Five students have successfully completed their Ph.D. programmes and five are working under the supervision of the author. By holding positions of scientist C to Scientist G since November 1992 to till date, Former Head, Division of Forest Ecology, AFRI and international experiences of FRI, Ltd, Rotorua, New Zealand, Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), Indonesia, author has involved in extending knowledge through workshops, brainstorming sessions and trainings to village farmers to officers of Indian Forest Services.
Dr Bilas Singh, Scientist-B was born on 3rd September 1966 at Bishunpur Jarhan, Mirjapur, UP. After completing his M. Sc (Ag), specialization in plant physiology, he joined Arid Forest Research Institute, Jodhpur in December 1990. He has completed his Ph.D. in stress physiology from FRI (deemed) University, Dehra Dun. Presently he is working on tree crop interaction and involved in extension of research findings to the end users. There are 53 research papers published in national and international journals to his credit and is awarded S.K. Seth prize of 'Indian Forester' for the year 2002.
Dr U.K. Tomar is having 33 years experience in Forest Genetics and Biotechnology. After M.Sc. (Botany), he did Ph.D. in Plant Tissue Culture from Delhi University (1989) and served as Assistant Professor in Hindu College, Delhi (1990) and Research Associate in TERI (1991). Since 1992, he is working as Sci. C to F at AFRI, Jodhpur. He is trained in Forest Genetics and DNA markers at Institute of Forest Genetics, Grosshansdorf, Germany (1995), University of Melbourne, Australia (2001) and as Neem Expert (2004) to China. He has conducted research on different aspects of tree improvement. About one hundred publications are in his credit and five research students awarded Ph.D. under his supervision. Presently he is head of F.G.T.B. Division.
Mrs Shruti Sharma, IFS (1987 batch, Rajasthan cadre) is M. Sc. Zoology from the University of Delhi, Master in Forestry from IGNFA and PG Diploma in Wildlife Management from WII, Dehra Dun. Presently she is Addl. Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Silviculure, Rajasthan. She has worked as CCF Concurrent Evaluation, Director Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur and different districts of Rajasthan in different capacities. She has also served in IGNFA and FRI, Dehradun also. She has worked on medicinal plants and herbal gardens, ecotourism-planning and management and has experience in protected area management. Before joining IFS, she has served PGT biology teacher at Army Public school and Bluebell School, Delhi (1983- 1987). The 'Pride of India'-a documentary of Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India is based on her work.
